Summer League Rules Supplement
Effective March 2026
RULES ARE STILL SUBJECT TO CHANGE BEFORE THE SEASON BEGINS.
Game Format
Games consist of two 20-minute halves with a running clock, except for the final two minutes of the second half, which follows normal stop-clock rules.
The clock will not stop running during water breaks in extreme heat conditions.
Regular Season Overtime
Each team receives one timeout only, not one timeout per overtime period.
- First Overtime: 2 minutes, running clock, final 30 seconds stop-clock
- Second Overtime: 1 minute, running clock, final 30 seconds stop-clock
- Third Overtime and beyond: 1 minute, running clock, final 30 seconds stop-clock
Playoff Overtime
Each overtime period is 2 minutes using regular stop-clock rules.
Each team receives one timeout per overtime period. Timeouts do not carry over from one overtime period to the next.
Substitution Rules
Every player must enter the game at least once every four minutes. Coaches must clear the bench at each 4-minute interval.
Coaches may substitute freely in the final 4 minutes of each half.
Playoff substitution rules are still to be determined.
Timeouts & Fouls
Teams receive two timeouts per half. Timeouts do not carry over.
The team foul bonus begins at 7 fouls. Team fouls reset at halftime. Team fouls from the second half carry into overtime.
Pressing Rules (Same as Winter Season)
- Minis: No pressing allowed except for the final 30 seconds of each half.
- Minor Boys and Minor Girls: No pressing allowed until the final 1 minute of each half.
- All other divisions: Follow standard high school press rules.
Team Format
- Varsity Division: 4-on-4 play (New for 2026)
- All other divisions: 4-on-4 play
Weather Policy (Regular Season Only)
If a weather event, such as rain or lightning, causes a game to end early:
- If a game reaches halftime and is then stopped for any reason, the game will be considered final, except in playoff games.
- If a game is stopped prior to halftime, it will be rescheduled and resumed at a later date from the point of stoppage, with the same score and time remaining.
Attendance
There are no minimum attendance requirements for Summer League participation or eligibility. Players may participate regardless of games attended.
Standings Tie-Breakers
In the event of a tie in the standings, playoff seeding will be determined by:
- Head-to-head record
- Points allowed
- Points scored
- Coin flip or random app generator
